Using Holographically Compressed Embeddings in Question Answering

Word vector representations are central to deep learning natural language processing models. Many forms of these vectors, known as embeddings, exist, including word2vec and GloVe. Embeddings are trained on large corpora and learn the word's usage in context, capturing the semantic relationship between words. However, the semantics from such training are at the level of distinct words (known as word types), and can be ambiguous when, for example, a word type can be either a noun or a verb. In question answering, parts-of-speech and named entity types are important, but encoding these attributes in neural models expands the size of the input. This research employs holographic compression of pre-trained embeddings, to represent a token, its part-of-speech, and named entity type, in the same dimension as representing only the token. The implementation, in a modified question answering recurrent deep learning network, shows that semantic relationships are preserved, and yields strong performance.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, 9th International Conference on Advanced Information Technologies and Applications (ICAITA 2020), July 11~12, 2020, Toronto, Canada, Advanced Natural Language Processing Sub-Conference (AdNLP 2020

    Software Frameworks for Model Composition

    Get PDF
A software framework is an architecture or infrastructure intended to enable the integration and interoperation of software components. Specialized types of software frameworks are those specifically intended to support the composition of models or other components within a simulation system. Such frameworks are intended to simplify the process of assembling a complex model or simulation system from simpler component models as well as to promote the reuse of the component models. Several different types of software frameworks for model composition have been designed and implemented; those types include common library, product line architecture, interoperability protocol, object model, formal, and integrative environment. The various framework types have different components, processes for composing models, and intended applications. In this survey the fundamental terms and concepts of software frameworks for model composition are presented, the different types of such frameworks are explained and compared, and important examples of each type are described

Resistance to acid attack, abrasion and leaching behavior of alkali-activated mine waste binders

This paper report results of a research project on the development of alkali-activated binders using mine wastes. Abrasion and acid resistance of two ordinary Portland cement (OPC) strength class concrete mixtures (C20/25 and C30/37) and several mine waste (MW) mixtures were compared. This study indicates that MW binders possess higher acid and abrasion resistance than OPC based concrete mixtures. The leaching assessment of the MW binders shows it can be considered an inert material which indicates that it could be used as a building material

DisProt: intrinsic protein disorder annotation in 2020

    Get PDF
The Database of Protein Disorder (DisProt, URL: https://disprot.org) provides manually curated annotations of intrinsically disordered proteins from the literature. Here we report recent developments with DisProt (version 8), including the doubling of protein entries, a new disorder ontology, improvements of the annotation format and a completely new website. The website includes a redesigned graphical interface, a better search engine, a clearer API for programmatic access and a new annotation interface that integrates text mining technologies. The new entry format provides a greater flexibility, simplifies maintenance and allows the capture of more information from the literature. The new disorder ontology has been formalized and made interoperable by adopting the OWL format, as well as its structure and term definitions have been improved. The new annotation interface has made the curation process faster and more effective. We recently showed that new DisProt annotations can be effectively used to train and validate disorder predictors. We believe the growth of DisProt will accelerate, contributing to the improvement of function and disorder predictors and therefore to illuminate the ‘dark’ proteome
